Before You Pack Your Little’s Backpack... (FAQs!)
We know starting something new can come with lots of questions. Here are some of the things curious families often ask—answered with love and care:
-
All the details will be shared in our Parent Handbook, which you'll receive after enrollment—but here’s a quick peek at the basics in the meantime:
A backpack with a full water bottle
A hearty lunch
We provide one hearty snack each day (often seasonal and organic!), so your child will only need to bring their lunch ready
Weather-appropriate clothing (think layers!)
Sturdy shoes ready for puddles, dirt, and exploration!
A sun hat & sunscreen (we reapply every 2 hours)
Their cozy mat (we provide one after enrollment!)
One extra change of clothes—because nature play = joyful messes!
-
We send out a weekly park schedule so you know where we’ll be adventuring. If weather asks us to switch things up, we’ll confirm the final spot the evening before.
-
We celebrate it! Nature doesn’t stop when it rains, and neither do we. With the right gear (hello, rain suits and boots!), rain days can be some of the most magical. That said, in cases of severe weather, we’ll always communicate with families for safety.
-
Yes. We are a drop-off program with a gentle, child-led adaptation process. We meet each family where they are, and work closely to make sure every child feels safe, seen, and supported.
-
With connection and compassion, we guide children through big feelings using respectful tools—not time-outs or punishments. Through co-regulation, we help them feel safe and supported, so they can gradually learn to navigate their emotions and inner world with confidence and kindness toward themselves and others.
-
Yaay! 🎉 Please fill out our Enrollment Form for 2025–2026. Once we connect, we’ll send you our Info Packet, guide you through the next steps, and invite you to a short meet & greet at the end of one of our sessions—so we can connect with you and your little one in person.
-
We welcome little explorers ages 3.5 to 8 years old. Our mixed-age groups are part of the magic! Younger ones learn by observing, older ones blossom as leaders, and everyone grows together—just like a forest, where every tree supports the next.
-
Beautifully! Children thrive in mixed-age environments. They learn patience, empathy, and collaboration—naturally. Older children gain confidence as they mentor, and younger ones soak up skills from their peers. It’s community learning at its best.
-
We explore a rotating selection of nature-rich parks and wild spaces in and around San Diego. Exact locations are shared with enrolled families for privacy and safety, but think trees to climb, trails to wander, and endless places to wonder.
-
Yes! Our days flow in both Spanish and English. We’re a bilingual program with an intentional focus on Spanish immersion—woven in through songs, stories, conversation, and play. Language is offered joyfully, never forced. Children pick up what they’re ready for, at their own pace—just like the rest of their learning.
-
Safety is our top priority, always. Our small group size and high adult-to-child ratio allow us to stay closely connected and attentive. We teach children how to move through nature with confidence and care, using clear boundaries, rhythm, and respect. From climbing safely to listening closely, we guide them gently in becoming thoughtful risk-takers.
And yes—first aid kits, walkie-talkies, and emergency protocols are always part of our toolkit too! -
All lead guides are CPR and First Aid certified, and have experience working with young children in outdoor settings. We also hold additional training in child development, nature-based education, and positive, respectful guidance.
Most importantly, we choose guides who are truly passionate about nurturing each child with presence, patience, and respect. We believe that the heart of a great guide lies not just in credentials—but in their ability to build real, loving connections with the children in their care.
